Apple Release iOS 18.2 Public Beta 1: What’s New in Apple Intelligence
- More Language Support: While the iOS 18.1 update allowed Apple Intelligence to work only with US English, the latest beta has added more localized English language support for other regions.Localized English will now be supported by Apple Intelligence in the following countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.
- Image Playground: is a new Image Playground app that allows users to generate images from text prompts. This tool for generating images has also been incorporated into other native applications, such as Notes, which enables users to create images within the context of that application.
- ChatGPT Integration: OpenAI’s ChatGPT has been integrated into the virtual assistant Siri, providing assistance for more complex queries upon user request. ChatGPT is also integrated with writing tools for text generation, summarization and more.
- Genmoji: Genmoji uses generative AI to create custom emojis directly from the emoji keyboard using text descriptions.
- Optional Writing Tools: The Writing Tools panel now includes a new “Describe Your Change” option, which gives users the ability to specify desired text changes in addition to the preset options.
- Visual Intelligence: For iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro owners, this feature allows access to the new viewfinder by pressing and holding the camera controls on the lock screen, enabling users to quickly take photos to gather more information about their surroundings.
The public beta versions of iPadOS 18.2 and macOS 15.2 are available for eligible iPads and Macs, making the majority of these features accessible to users of those devices. There is also a new special intelligence feature for iPads called “Image Wand”. iOS 18.2 Public Beta 1: Non-Intelligent Features
- With iOS 18.2, users are able to share the location data of lost items with other people. This feature is known as “Find My Sharing.” Users have the ability to generate and share a link with another individual, who can then access the data on the web, even if they are not using an Apple device.
- Camera control: iOS 18.2 beta 2 introduces a new feature for iPhone 16 series users, allowing them to control focus and lock exposure through a dedicated camera control button. With a light press, users can lock the exposure and focus, while a full press maintains these settings as they adjust positions and angles, keeping the subject in focus and exposure consistent.
- Redesigned Mail app: With the iOS 18.2 update, the Mail app has been updated with new inbox sorting tools and design changes.In the new layout, contact images and icons are displayed for each email that is stored in the inbox. The app now also sorts emails into categories like Primary, Transactions, Updates and Promotions.
- Other: Other notable changes include Live Activity support for the Safari web browser to track download progress, a new Settings hub to organize default apps into categories, and more.
